Os Maníacos (The Maniacs)
This project is very special to me. Daniel Belquer, Murilo O'Reilly and Paulo Brandão were 'Os Maníacos' (The Maniacs). I played accordion and melodica. Paulo was our leader and guru. We used to play with Brian Eno's 'Oblique Strategies' set of cards to build our unique arrangements.
The band was gathered by Fabiano Medeiros but we ended up playing also in Simone Mazzer's show.
Here are some videos of this project. Miss you guys!
I composed the music for this show in 1990, when I was still living at Londrina (state of Paraná) and Dílson Catarino was my teacher at high school. This Project consists in his surrealistic poems being spoken while the music changes according to the text.
The show went through several different versions but it gained a major impulse when I was with the band IGUARANOISE.
We recorded the project in studio and went on to play at Virus Festival in Eindhoven (Holland) thanks to the most generous and kind support from professor Catarino. Loek Daemen made the Holland part possible.
The band who is performing at this recordings is formed by Julian Joyner (vocals), Daniel Belquer (keyboards, compositions and arrangements), Marcelo Pastor (drums), Eduardo Brancalion (guitars and viola caipira), Walter do Valle (bass), Arthur Fernandes and Roberto Karpinsky (Trumpet and Flügelhorn), Alexandre 'Tim' Oliveira (trombone) and Luciano Galbiatti (Percussion). Valdir Castro plays bass in 'Marasmo' (Stagnation) and ??? plays cello in 'Delírios' (Deliriums) and 'Arrepio' (Thrill). Jullian Joyner and Eduardo Bracallion composed 'Natural' (Natural) and the main riff for 'Nada' (Nothing) was created by Ângelo Galbiatti.
Some recordings can be accessed on the right column.
